Weather Explained: Graupel

Graupel is a snowflake that is laden with supercooled water droplets.

It falls to the ground as white ball-shaped precipitation.

You can see how the snowflakes are full of little balls of what look like snow as well.

Today's National Forecast

Skies have cleared out in west portions of the Ohio Valley as a low pressure system moves off east.

Other areas of the Ohio Valley will have to deal with more precipitation, mainly snow in areas north.

Into the Midwest, skies will remain fairly clear as high pressure comes over the area.

Down into the South, showers and storms are possible/occurring in the Florida area.

Back to the west US, skies are clear.
