PUBLIC SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK 0511 AM CDT TUE JUL 26 2011 ...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED OVER PARTS OF THE NORTHERN PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT... THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS OVER PARTS OF THE NORTHERN PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE CENTRAL AND EASTERN NORTH DAKOTA CENTRAL AND EASTERN SOUTH DAKOTA ELSEWHERE...SEVERE STORMS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE FROM NORTHEAST COLORADO INTO MUCH OF THE NORTHERN PLAINS STATES. SEVERE WEATHER IS ALSO EXPECTED TODAY OVER THE NORTHEAST STATES. AN UPPER STORM SYSTEM OVER THE NORTHERN ROCKIES IS FORECAST TO TRACK EASTWARD AND AFFECT THE NORTHERN PLAINS BY THIS EVENING. INCREASINGLY STRONG SOUTHERLY LOW LEVEL WINDS AHEAD OF THE SYSTEM WILL MAINTAIN RICH LOW LEVEL MOISTURE ACROSS THE DAKOTAS. MEANWHILE...A SURFACE LOW WILL FORM OVER CENTRAL SD BY LATE AFTERNOON PROVIDING THE FOCUS FOR INTENSE THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT. STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO TRACK EAST-NORTHEASTWARD WITH THE LOW INTO SOUTHEAST ND DURING THE EVENING...AND EVENTUALLY INTO WESTERN MN. THE COMBINATION OF HOT/MOIST CONDITIONS AND UNSEASONABLY STRONG WIND FIELDS SUGGEST THE RISK OF SUPERCELL STORMS CAPABLE OF DAMAGING WINDS...VERY LARGE HAIL...AND A FEW TORNADOES. STRONG TORNADOES WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE MID EVENING. STATE AND LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGERS ARE MONITORING THIS DEVELOPING SITUATION. THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER TODAY.
