There have been severe weather outbreaks, but this is an actual outbreak. I cannot stress enough how much you need to get ready if you live in the area in red. If this verifies, we will likely have a 'High Risk', which was also called on April 27, 2011.
There is a very serious threat to life and property in this situation. I am very worried for mass casualties as a result of tornadoes.

Key
Yellow: Some thunderstorms possible.
Orange: Thunderstorms likely, some may be strong to severe.
Red: Severe thunderstorms likely.
Pink: Several intense severe thunderstorms likely- risk of tornadoes and large hail.
Blue: Threat to life and property. Tornado outbreak possible.

I completely agree. Dangerous outbreak likely.
I moved to Wichita half a year ago from Northeast. I live very close to the Andover Tornado path and directly on the Haysville Tornado path (May 3, 1999). I am waiting for my spotter number. Storms are a beauty but they suck when people die.
Anonymous: Wow! That sounds pretty unbelievable. Glad to know you got out of it OK. That is true- you see the real meaning of 'severe' in severe weather when a life is lost.
I wasn't living in Kansas at the time but yeah that was how I got out of both of them lol. I was born and raised in the northeast but economy got so bad I moved to the slow Plains to start over. It is amazing how I live in the paths from two historic outbreaks. Not much northeast outbreaks but some states are prone to killer EF2-EF4s and even EF5s(PA F5 in mid 80s). Man I talk too much lol. Well hopefully everyone will be safe because Plains people are usually more aware visually. It's sad how dixie tornadoes are infamous as the nightstalkers or killers.
