The latest GFS model is projecting an extremely strong trough to hit the West Coast in the beginning of October, continuing the unusual-ness to this weather year.
This is indeed long range, and should be taken as such. However, should this system happen to strike, we could be seeing very unusual weather in these regions. Looking at the same timeframe, it has come to my attention that a small air mass suitable for snow will be over the waters to the west of California. This does NOT mean snow will fall, but does mean that, if the surface were colder, snow could fall there.

Hello Andrew! This has nothing to do with this post.We got a few inches of rain in northern & eastern Ohio the last few days.According to the Pittsburgh & Cleveland NWS,they say the drought we were in here is pretty much gone.Amazing how we went to one extreme to another. Now it will be interesting to see if this pattern might come back when winter begins.I'm thinking we will be wet here in this part of the Ohio Valley. At this point,it's a long shot to say if it's going to be rain or snow.
Mike, my area is wet too. I like it.
Hello ERNWX! I figured it would be.Every system that travels through my area is basically heading towards your area. It's a complete pattern change towards the wetter versus the dry.I also like the wet conditions! It will be interesting to see if storm systems in the winter go through my area then travel towards your area.I sure hope me get a ton of snow this coming winter!
Mike I think there will be storms traveling W-E that give us 3-6 inch snows. Then there will be the BIG boys. Storms that push off the coast.
