Personal Winter Forecast: Bondville VT, Bethel CT

BONDVILLE, VERMONT

Precipitation: Slightly Above Normal
Temperature: Above Normal
Snowfall: Below Normal

While Precipitation should be slightly above normal, above normal temperatures should help make for some below normal snowfall as the positive NAO will likely prevent the big snowstorms.

BETHEL, CONNECTICUT

Precipitation: Slightly Above Normal
Temperature: Above Normal
Snowfall: Below Normal

Refer to the above discussion.

Personal Winter Forecast: Raleigh NC, Traverse City MI, Springfield IL

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA

Precipitation: Below Normal
Temperature: Above Normal
Snowfall: Below Normal

The Positive NAO will provide grounds for North Carolina to not get the biggest of storms this winter, thus the below normal snow and precipitation. However, that doesn't mean that some big storms won't hit the Northeast. Temperatures will be above normal as a warm fall continues into the winter.

TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN

Precipitation: Around Normal or Slightly Above Normal
Temperature: Above Normal
Snowfall: Ending Normal (Or Going Either Slightly Below/Above Normal)

Michigan could go either way with snowfall, as precipitation isn't too confident right now. Temperatures will probably be above normal, going off the warm fall for the entire Great Lakes region and Midwest.

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS

Precipitation: Slightly Above Normal
Temperature: Slightly Above Normal
Snowfall: Around Normal*
*Confidence is Lower Than Normal

Springfield will likely see some above normal temperatures and precipitation. The storm track is right around normal, while temperatures have been warm through the fall. Snowfall might end up around normal, but confidence is unusually low.

Personal Winter Forecast: Westminister MD, Tanytown MD, Southwest Harbor ME

WESTMINISTER, MARYLAND

Precipitation: Slightly Above Normal
Temperature: Above Normal (At least +2 degrees above normal)
Snowfall: Below Normal

A dismal start to winter has had its effect on the Northeast, with warm temperatures and below average snowfall expected.

TANYTOWN, MARYLAND

Precipitation: Slightly Above Normal
Temperature: Above Normal (At least +2 degrees above normal)
Snowfall: Below Normal

Because this town and the one above are in the same state, refer to the previous discussion for Westminister.

SOUTHWEST HARBOR, MAINE

Precipitation: Slightly Above Normal
Temperature: Slightly Above Normal to Above Normal
Snowfall: Below Normal

This will not be a good winter for snow lovers all around, as Maine is likely to receive below average snowfall as a consequence for this dismal start to winter.

Personal Winter Forecast: Brighton MI, Mora MN, Kent OH, Ellicottville NY

BRIGHTON, MICHIGAN

Precipitation: Above Normal (At least +1 inch)
Temperature: Around Normal*
Snowfall: Ending somewhat around normal*
*Confidence is lower than usual.

Michigan is relying on this pattern change. If it happens, temperatures will cool off and snow will come alive. However, we had to put the lower confidence asterisk because of how the temperature and snowfall indices rely on this pattern change that might not be present in winter long enough to have any effect.

MORA, MINNESOTA

Precipitation: Around Normal
Temperature: Cold (At least -2 degrees below normal)
Snowfall: Around Normal*
Confidence is lower than usual.

Precipitation and snowfall are also reliant somewhat on the pattern change. Should the pattern change occur, the snowfall and precipitation would be in a much better condition for confidence.

KENT, OHIO

Precipitation: Well Above Normal (Threatening Records)
Temperature: Ending Slightly Above Normal
Snowfall: Ending Around Normal or Above Normal

Ohio has been breaking precipitation records, and with more rain coming, it is only anticipated that more records will be broken. Temperature is a tough field- Ohio is in the same boat as the Northeast, which is above normal for temps, but if enough cold shots come down, they may end up slightly above normal.

ELLICOTTVILLE, NEW YORK

Precipitation: Above Normal (At least +2 inches)
Temperature: Above Normal (At least +2 degrees)
Snowfall: Possibly Below Normal*
*Confidence is lower than usual.

A warm fall is leading into a warm winter this time around. If the pattern change comes around, we may be able to change that snowfall to better grounds, as may the precipitation, but for now, it's all about the warmth.

Personal Winter Forecast: St. Louis MO, Guttenberg IA, Spring Valley NY

ST LOUIS, MISSOURI

Precipitation: Above Normal (+0.5 inches or more)
Temperature: Above Normal
Snowfall: Above Normal (+2 inches or more)

St. Louis is projected to receive a wet winter after a very wet fall. That said, snowfall should be above normal as well. Temperatures should end above normal, especially after the slow start to winter.

GUTTENBERG, IOWA

Precipitation: Above Normal
Temperature: Ending Around Normal*
Snowfall: Below Normal
*Confidence is lower than normal

Iowa may be able to receive enough cold shots during JAN and FEB to make for around normal temperatures. Precipitation should be above normal, but too slow a start to winter may make for below normal snowfall.

SPRING VALLEY, NEW YORK

Precipitation: Above Normal
Temperature: Above Normal
Snowfall: Above Normal

A wet start to fall should continue through winter to make for above normal precipitation, snowfall. However, the warm fall will also continue through winter.

Personal Winter Forecast: Milwaukee WI, Albany NY, Fort Atkinson WI

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN

Precipitation: Slightly Above Average
Temperature: Ending up Around Normal
Snowfall: Slightly Below Normal

The bad winter start has had an effect on snowfall and will end up below normal. Temperature should end up around normal while a wet fall should make for an above normal precipitation.
ALBANY, NEW YORK

Precipitation: Above Normal
Temperature: Above Normal (+1 degrees or more)
Snowfall: Above Normal (+2 inches or more)

The October Snowstorm for the Northeast appears to be a signal that the Northeast may be the snow haven this year, so precipitation and snowfall are angled to an above average view. However, after a very warm fall, winter may follow suit.

FORT ATKINSON, WISCONSIN

Precipitation: Slightly Above Normal
Temperature: Ending Around Normal
Snowfall: Slightly Below Normal

After a dismal start to winter, Fort Atkinson should end up with below normal snowfall in the end. Temperatures should cancel each other out as cold and warmth battle for their rightful place. Precipitation should end up slightly above normal after a wet fall.

Personal Winter Forecast: Columbus OH, Richmond VA, Hays KS

COLUMBUS, OHIO

Precipitation: Well Above Normal (Records Broken)
Temperature: Ending Around Normal
Snowfall: Slightly Above Normal*
*Confidence is lower than normal.

The Ohio Valley has broken records for the wettest year, and that should continue through the winter. Warm and cold should make for normal temperatures and slightly above normal snowfall after a dismal winter start.

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA

Precipitation: Slightly Below Normal
Temperature: Ending Above Normal (+0.5 degrees or more)
Snowfall: Below Normal

Richmond is not in the best spot for storm tracks. The Climate Prediction Center is forecasting below normal precipitation and above normal temperatures through the next few months. Thus, snowfall will also be below normal.

HAYS, KANSAS

Precipitation: Slightly Above Normal*
Temperature: Ending Normal or Slightly Above Normal
Snowfall: Slightly Above Normal
*Confidence is lower than normal.

Hays, Kansas is in a favorable position for storms based on the latest cut-off lows moving throughout the region. However, if the pattern change comes out as expected, this may change. Either way, snowfall should end slightly above normal. The same is possible for precipitation, but confidence is lower than normal. Temperatures may end up from normal to slightly above normal.

Personal Winter Forecast: Linden VA, Fort Wayne IN, Valparaiso IN

LINDEN, VIRGINIA

Precipitation: Slightly Below Normal
Temperature: Above Normal (+0.5 degrees and higher)
Snowfall: Below Normal (At least -3 inches)

Linden is in a bad boat for snowfall and precipitation, as the CPC is forecasting below normal precipitation and above normal temperatures. Thus, snowfall should be below normal.

FORT WAYNE, INDIANA

Precipitation: Above Normal (+1 inch or more)
Temperature: Above Normal (+0.5 degrees or more)
Snowfall: Above Normal (At least +3 inches)

Fort Wayne should eventually get above normal snowfall, thanks to the Great Lakes which should eventually start really going on the lake effect machine. Temperatures may, however, end up above normal. We are anticipating precipitation to be above normal as places close to Indiana, like Ohio, have broken precipitation records.

VALPARAISO, INDIANA

Precipitation: Above Normal (+1.5 inches or more)
Temperature: Normal or Slightly Above Normal
Snowfall: Well Above Normal (+10 inches or more)*
*Confidence is slightly lower than usual.

Valparaiso will get hit hard by lake effect snow if everything turns out alright in the pattern change. Thus, precipitation should end above normal. Temperatures may wobble out to normal or slightly above normal.

Personal Winter Forecast: Gloversville NY, Minneapolis MN, Onalaska TX

GLOVERSVILLE, NEW YORK

Precipitation: Slightly Above Normal
Temperature: Ending Around Normal or Slightly Above Normal
Snowfall: Above Normal (At least +5 inches)

New York, after the October snowstorm is in a good position for snowfall this winter. Temperatures may wobble enough to become slightly above normal, as may precipitation.

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA

Precipitation: Around Normal
Temperature: Much Below Normal (At least -2 degrees)
Snowfall: Slightly Above Normal

Minneapolis should benefit with well below temperatures to increase snow ratios enough to get above normal snowfall, while precipitation should wind up around normal.

ONALASKA, TEXAS

Precipitation: Much Below Normal (Record Drought)
Temperature: Above Normal (At least +2 degrees)
Snowfall: Below Normal

Texas has and will continue to have above normal temperatures, record below normal temperatures, and definitely below normal snowfall.

Personal Winter Forecast: Leesburg VA, West Plains MO, Beckley WV

LEESBURG, VIRGINIA

Precipitation: Slightly Below Normal
Temperature: Ending Slightly Above Normal or Around Normal
Snowfall: Below Normal

Virginia is not in a good spot for storms in the Northeast, so snowfall and temperatures should end up below normal. Temperatures ought to end up above normal in a late season warm up, aided by what has happened in the fall.

WEST PLAINS, MISSOURI

Precipitation: Slightly Above Normal
Temperature: Slightly Above Normal
Snowfall: Above Normal (By at least 3 inches)

Missouri should get the brunt of snow when the pattern change comes and cold air is more abundant. However, warm shots should disrupt the cold enough to produce a somewhat slightly above normal temperatures. Snowfall and precipitation should be abundant as storms track through.

BECKLEY, WEST VIRGINIA

Precipitation: Slightly Below Normal
Temperature: Ending Slightly Above Normal or Around Normal
Snowfall: Below Normal

West Virginia is in a bad spot this winter, with below normal precipitation and snowfall while they are in a bad spot for storms. Temperatures have been warmed by this fall and may continue to do so through the winter.

Personal Winter Forecast: Chicago IL, Sioux Falls SD, Mount Laurel NJ

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

Precipitation: Above Normal (Up to 2 inches above normal)
Temperature: Around Normal
Snowfall: Slightly Below Normal*
*Lower than normal Confidence.

Chicago is facing a difficult winter. After a dismal start, the Windy City is waiting for a pattern change that their winter very well may depend on. We believe that Chicago should end up with slightly below normal snowfall after a slow winter start, but temperatures should become moderate. Precipitation should be above normal after a wet fall, and warm storms may add to the rain and thus add to the winter precipitation.

SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA

Precipitation: Normal
Temperature: Below Normal
Snowfall: Above Normal (At least 2 inches above normal)

South Dakota should end up with a cold winter and some snowy winter weather as the Canadian cold air will eventually open up to the North Plains. Precipitation should be normal.

MOUNT LAUREL, NEW JERSEY

Precipitation: Above Normal (At least 1 inch above normal)
Temperature: Possibly Ending Above Normal
Snowfall: Above Normal (At least 5 inches above normal)

Coastal storms should put the Northeast in at least a fairly good position for snowfall and precipitation, but not for temperatures, as a wet fall and a warm fall have given a glimpse of what will come.

Personal Winter Forecast: Omaha NE, Detroit, MI, Holmesville, OH

OMAHA, NEBRASKA

Precipitation: Normal to Slightly Below Normal (-0.2 to -0.4 inches)
Temperature: Above Normal (+1 to +2 degrees)
Snowfall: Around Normal

Omaha will be ending up with some interesting precipitation and temperatures, but overall, those two may end up below normal. Snowfall ought to become normal.

DETROIT, MICHIGAN

Precipitation: Slightly Above Normal (+0.2 to +0.4 inches)
Temperature: Above Normal (+0.5 to +2 degrees)
Snowfall: Slightly Above Normal (2-7 inches above normal)*
*Confidence is low for amounts in inches.

Detroit will have an interesting winter as soon as the pattern change begins. Precipitation and snowfall will be above normal, while temperatures should end up slightly above normal.

HOLMESVILLE, OHIO

Precipitation: Slightly Above Normal (+0.2 to +1 inches)
Temperature: Above Normal (Up to 2 degrees above normal)
Snowfall: Above Normal (Up to 10 inches above normal)

Holmesville will get hammered when the pattern change takes hold, with above normal snowfall, precipitation and temperatures. A warm fall has led to the likelihood of continuing warm temperatures, while a very very wet fall will continue into winter.
