Excerpt from today's Chicago forecast

WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:

NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...WITH
SCATTERED STORMS POSSIBLY REACHING SEVERE LEVELS...CAPABLE OF
PRODUCING:

HAIL UP TO THE SIZE OF QUARTERS AND
DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH.

AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING:

THE STRONGEST STORMS WILL BE CONFINED TO LOCATIONS SOUTH OF
INTERSTATE 80 AND EAST OF INTERSTATE 55...IN EAST CENTRAL
ILLINOIS THIS AFTERNOON AND NORTHWESTERN INDIANA THIS EVENING.

DISCUSSION:

A COLD FRONT CROSSING THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON WITH BE THE FOCUS
FOR THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY BEGINNING IN THE EARLY AFTERNOON HOURS.
WITH STRONG WINDS ALOFT AND LITTLE DIRECTIONAL SHEAR IN THE LOWER
LEVELS...THE PRIMARY THREATS WILL BE DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND LARGE
HAIL. THE COLD FRONT SHOULD PUSH THROUGH NORTHWESTERN INDIANA
DURING THE EARLY EVENING HOURS...PUSHING THE THUNDERSTORMS OUT OF
THE OUTLOOK AREA.
