As you head to bed forecast

Good evening, this is Meteorologist Racki with your 'As You Head To Bed Forecast'.
Let's start with the East Coast, where we see some showers and a couple storms moving out over the oceans for a mostly clear night on the coast. Down in the South, we see a nice and clear night, excluding a small line in Texas where some showers are firing up but quickly moving north. In the Midwest, there are showers and thunderstorms, some severe, moving along Indiana and Kansas. These storms should weaken as they lose daytime heating. Finally, on the West Coast we look out to a clear night all around.

Special Weather Advisory (Kansas, Oklahoma)

A Special Weather Advisory is in effect for the following areas:
-Central Kansas
-Oklahoma Panhandle

At 8:15 pm CDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were producing a tornado watch in the areas above.

People in these areas should prepare to seek shelter, secure outdoor objects, and turn on a radio or local TV station.

This advisory will expire at 9:00pm CDT.

Special Weather Advisory (Ohio, Indiana, Illinois)

A Special Weather Advisory is in effect for the following areas:
-Indiana
-West Ohio
-South Illinois

At 8:13pm CDT, a squall line continued through the above regions producing a Severe Thunderstorm Watch.

People in these areas are advised to secure outdoor objects and turn on a radio or local TV station.

This advisory will expire at 10:00pm CDT.

Special Weather Watch (Illinois, Indiana)

A Special Weather Watch has been issued for the following areas:
-Illinois
-Indiana

At 12:59pm CDT, a severe thunderstorm watch had been issued for the Illinois/Indiana areas.

A squall line is currently entering the watch area in Illinois moving east. Cities such as Springfield, Illinois, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Gary, Indiana will be impacted. However, Chicago, Illinois will NOT be impacted as much as the other areas will.

This watch will expire when the Severe T-storm watch expires: 7:00pm CDT

Special Weather Warning (Kansas, Missouri, Iowa)

A Special Weather Warning is in effect for the following areas:
-Northeast Kansas
-North Missouri
-Iowa

All other 8:16am CDT advisories in the Midwest are now cancelled or expired.

At 10:51am CDT, radar was indicating strong thunderstorms over the Iowa area, Northeast Kansas, and North Missouri areas.

There is a squall line in the Missouri/Iowa area, with the tail end in the mentioned Kansas area.

The back end of the squall line in Kansas has now been identified by radar as a training storm cell.

This warning will expire at 12:00pm CDT for Iowa, 2:00pm CDT for Missouri, and 1:00pm CDT for the Kansas area.

Note Kansas: This warnign expiration time for Kansas is an estimation. Real expiration time is unknown due to the nature of training.

All people in the outlined areas are advised to seek shelter until the storms pass.

8:17am CDT Special Weather Advisory Update



This is an update to the 8:17am CDT Special Weather Advisory.

The following areas are being updated:
-South Dakota
-Nebraska

At 8:49am CDT, radar was indicating storms in those areas were dissipating.
Thus, the Special Weather Advisory in those areas has been cancelled.

All other states in the issued advisory are still under the advisory and will expire at their designated times.

However, re-issuance or time extension may be nessecary.

Special Weather Watch (Illinois, Iowa, Missouri)



A Special Weather Watch has been issued for the following areas:
-West Central Illinois
-Northwest Illinois
-Iowa
-Northwest Missouri into North Missouri

This is an add-on to the Special Weather advisory previously issued for these areas and many other areas.

This Watch will expire at 11:00am CDT.

People in this area should turn on a local TV station or radio and secure outdoor objects.

Special Weather Advisory (Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky)

A Special Weather Advisory has been issued for the following areas:
-Southeast Indiana
-Southwest Ohio
-Southwest West Virginia
-Northeast Kentucky

At 8:41am CDT, radar indicated spotty strong storms were moving through the West Virginia and Kentucky areas mentioned above.
At the same time, a small complex of storms was moving east across the Indiana Ohio Border.

This Advisory wil expire at the following times for the following states:
-Indiana: 9:10am CDT
-Ohio: 10:00am CDT
-West Virginia and Kentucky: 9:20am CDT

Special Weather Advisory (New York)

A Special Weather Advisory has been issued for New York.

At 8:37am CDT, rarar indicated storms were moving off of Lake Erie and over the New York area.

People in this advisory should secure outdoor objects and put pets indoors.

This advisory will expire at 9:30am CDT.

Special Weather Advisory (Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Wisconsin)



A Special Weather Advisory has been issued for the following areas:

- Northwest Illinois
- Iowa
- Southwest Minnesota
- SouthEast South Dakota
- Southeast Nebraska
- Northeast Kansas
- North Missouri
- Extreme Southwest Wisconsin

At 8:22am CDT, radar continued to indicate strong to previously severe storms in the above areas. Not all areas stated above previously experienced severe storms, however.
These storms were moving northeast relatively slowly.

Caution: These storms are developing in an area the Storm Prediction Center has outlied to be a 'Slight Risk Area' for Severe thunderstorms today.
However, not all above areas are included in the slight risk area.

The strongest storms are in the following areas:
-North Missouri
-Northeast Kansas
-Iowa
-Northwest Illinois

People in the following areas are advised to secure outdoor objects:
-South Dakota
-Minnesota
-Southeast Nebraska

People in the following areas should secure outdoor objects and turn on a radio or local TV station:


- Extreme Southwest Wisonsin
- Northwest Illinois

People in the following areas are advised to secure outdoor objects, turn on a local TV station or radio, and prepare to seek immediate shelter if needed:

-Northwest Missouri
-Southeast Iowa


The following are the areas metioned in this advisory and their expiration times for this advisory:

-Wisconsin: 10:00am CDT
-Missouri: 11:00am CDT
-Kansas: 10:30am CDT
-Minnesota: 9:20am CDT
-Nebraska: 9:10am CDT
-South Dakota: 9:20am CDT
-Iowa: 10:30am CDT
-Illinois: 10:00am CDT

However, despite these times, more storms may occur in one of the above areas that may require a time extension or an entirely new advisory/watch/warning.


It is possible for these areas to remain under the Special Weather Advisory and also be issued a Special Weather Warning.
